Visakhapatnam | August 8, 2025 — Vistarana info a brand of Vistarana Mass Communication Society (VMCS) expresses its profound condolences on the passing of Dr. P.J. Sudhakar, a legendary scholar and former News Director of Doordarshan, who passed away on August 6 in Visakhapatnam at the age of 68.
Dr. Sudhakar earned global recognition for holding a Guinness World Record with 121 academic degrees, including multiple postgraduate degrees and 16 PhDs, making him the most academically decorated individual in the world2. His insatiable thirst for knowledge and unwavering dedication to education made him a beacon of inspiration across India.
VMCS proudly recalls the honor of felicitating Dr. Sudhakar during the National Human Rights Day celebrations in 2022, recognizing his contributions to education, journalism, and public service. “It was a proud moment for us to celebrate a man who rose from humble beginnings to become a symbol of intellectual excellence,” said K.V.R. Dr. Sudhakar began his career as a typist at Dredging Corporation of India (DCI), Visakhapatnam, and later joined the Indian Information Service (IIS). He served in various capacities in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, including as Additional Director General and Director of Doordarshan, leaving an indelible mark on public communication and media ethics.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Sudhakar was a compassionate soul who supported underprivileged students by paying their fees and authored 10 books, many reflecting his deep interest in Buddhism and social reform.
