If you witness a road accident and step forward to help—by calling emergency services or transporting the injured to a hospital—you could now receive a Good Samaritan Award of ₹25,000. This initiative, announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, aims to encourage citizens to act swiftly during the “Golden Hour”, the critical first hour after an accident when timely medical care can save lives.

“Helping someone in distress should never come with fear or hesitation. We want to build a culture of courage and kindness,” Gadkari said at a recent road safety event.

🏥 Free Hospital Care for Accident Victims

In a parallel effort, the government has launched the Cashless Treatment Scheme–2025, offering free medical care up to ₹1.5 lakh for all road accident victims across India. Whether you’re a pedestrian, passenger, or driver, you can now receive emergency treatment at over 30,000 empaneled hospitals without worrying about bills3.

Key Highlights of the Scheme:

  • Covers emergency care, surgery, ICU, diagnostics, and medicines
  • Valid for 7 days from the date of the accident
  • No paperwork or ID required at the time of admission
  • Managed by the National Health Authority with digital tracking for transparency
